About this site

Infrequently asked questions:

Who's behind this?

I'm Gregory Korte. Johnny Hodapp was my grandfather, and over the years I've collected boxes and boxes of scrapbooks, clippings, photographs, memorabilia and other emphemera related to Hoddy's career and baseball in the 1920s and '30s.

By day, I'm a political journalist working in Washington, D.C. My employer would like for me to remind you that any opinions, thoughts, musings or Yankees hatred on this site represent my views only.

Why should I subscribe?

Some of the content on this site will be behind a "freewall," meaning you'll have to sign up (for free!) in order to access it. I'm hoping this will provide a more engaging experience -- but also help keep the AI bots away. There's a lot of content that's never been on the Internet, and I'd like to preserve its value by not using it to train large language models.

By signing up, you'll also get an occassional newsletter highlighting new content on the site.

How can I help?

I would love your feedback, questions and contributions. If you would like to write for this site, or if you have copies of news clippings, memorabilia or other archival material to share, please reach out.

If you would like to donate to help defray the server costs, you can do so via Paypal or Stripe.

How did you create this site?

JohnnyHodapp.com is built on the Ghost platform using the Edition theme. Hosting is by Magic Pages.

What happened to the old site?

A previous version of this site was online from 2008 to 2017. It was built on a no-longer-maintained version of Wordpress, but also I forgot to pay the web hosting bill and it went offline.

I'll be adding that content back to the new site over time.

Who owns this content?

All articles on this website are copyright (c) 1999-2024 unless otherwise noted.

As far as any archival material, copyright is complicated. As of 2024, anything published before January 1, 1929 is in the public domain. Any other use of archival news clippings, photos or other material is fair use.

Certain films are (c) the Estate of Martha Garraghan Hodapp.

Any other content is used by permission or under a Creative Commons license.

Who else helped with this?

A number of baseball historians, fans, journalists and archivists have been helpful over the years, including George Brace, Kevin Grace, Glenn Guzzo, Stuart Hodesh, Bill Nowlin, Jeffrey P. Powers-Beck and Dorothy Z. Seymour.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some folks so I'll add to this list as I go along.

I'd also like to thank the Hodapp, Korte and Huey families for thier continued interest and support.

What about the team name?

The Cleveland baseball franchise was renamed following the 2021 season to the Cleveland Guardians. I support that decision. For all times relevant to Johnny Hodapp, the team was known as the Indians. This site will retain that name in all historical references, but will use Guardians in the contemporary context.
